VG, front joint moderately worn, rear joint less so; corners & spine ends lightly rubbed; paper insets are soiled and lightly worn. The present work is a fiction in the guise of an historical document. First published anonymously in 1844; a second and a third edition followed in 1845, and a New York edition in the same year.
